The cathedral has functioned througout the 20th century. From 1941, it has been the main cathedral of the city. |
Buit to Savva Chevakinsky's design in 1753-1762. The cathedral is famous
for its Upper Church iconostasis (work of Russian 18th-century carvers).
One of the sacred objects preserved in it is the icon of St. Nicholas,
taken away by the French in 1812 and returned to Russia in 1835.
On the walls inside, plaques are dedicated to the memory of perished
Russian sailors.
