The initial church was built by Pietro Trezzini to Mikhail Zemtsov's design in the courtyard of the Grenadiers Company of the regiment in 1743-1745. Built anew after the fire of 1825, the cathedral was consecrated to the Transfiguration on 5 August 1829. One of the towers of the cathedral has a clock brought from England and mounted in 1854. |
Built in 1827-1829 to Vasily Starov's design on the site of the church
of the Life-Guards of the Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration) Regiment.
In 1896, by Emperor Paul I's decree, it received the title of the Cathedral of All Guards.
